Easy Measures that Can Help Prevent Losing Your Luggage

Sometimes you may wake from bed feeling that today will not be your lucky day. It will always be the latter’s fate to get a life with something always going wrong in it terribly. When it comes to travelling, there are indeed few things that are more annoying and a sure source of stress for a traveller than losing the luggage and seeing a loaded carousel turn repeatedly until the last bag has been taken, then each cycle with fewer bags undermining your morale until the final blow-a realisation that the bag is missing!

Is there a complete proof method of preventing this from happening to you? Sadly, there isn’t. But this does not mean that you do not have options that will significantly decrease the probability of your luggage being lost by the airlines.

Here are our favourite tips to make you a happier traveller and decrease your probability of losing your luggage! Travel safely with Grandlane Private Chauffeur Service:-

Early detection of baggage check-in

Passengers checking in for flights get their baggage either arriving at the security checkpoint line late or spending a long time in line and realise that they were a few minutes too late, in general, to ensure that their baggage ever makes it on the plane. Hence, if there is any way of doing this, then it would be advisable to check in your luggage 45 minutes to 1 hour before the scheduled time of departure. However, do not arrive later than that if you can avoid it! When hiring a cab for airport drop-offs, the driver will advise you when to be at the airport to check-in.

Verify the airport code a second time

Sometimes, this check-in will place an incorrect airport code on one's luggage. Therefore, before checking in one's baggage at an airport, it is advised to request the check-in personnel to double-check the airport code. On rare occasions, it will turn out to be wrong, which will help to prevent much time and bother of searching for the suitcase after it has been misplaced.

Also, remember to remove all the previous airline tags on the luggage to prevent it from being mistaken for your current destination.

Label your bags

That means it is hard for an airline worker to misplace or lose your bright green bag or a bag with distinct photos during the airport transfer. A simple precaution of seeing that several of the belts used are brightly coloured or the luggage cover is easily recognisable will likely prevent losing the bag or having it misplaced or even stolen. With the luggage covers, your bag will not resemble any other person’s bag, in addition to which the cover will shield your bag from various damages that it might be subjected to while being loaded, including impacts, scratches or piercing objects.

Book a direct flight whenever it is possible

The less often the baggage is transferred from one plane to another, the fewer possibilities of being lost or delivered to the wrong part of the world there will be. As scholars have postulated, choosing a direct flight whenever possible minimises the likelihood of losing your luggage. Simple as that.

Go hi-tech with your tagging

One of the most common trends in tracking your bag’s whereabouts is using a Tile—a GPS tag that works in conjunction with a smartphone. That way, you can locate where your bags are at any time you intend to search for them. Not only could you and the carrier(s) find your bags if your bags were misplaced, but it was so simple to do so with this handy gadget.

Bonus tip

It can be as simple as a photograph snapped at home of the inside and outside of the purse or handbag that one carries around. This way, if your bag has gone missing, at least you can easily direct the airlines when they are trying to figure out where your luggage is.

There you have it. Those are Grandlane Transfer's most loved tips; they will significantly decrease the likelihood of your baggage getting lost or misplaced.
